Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistant supports our practice nurse with their daily work and carry out tasks such as:

* Measurements of Height and Weight

* ECGs

* New Patient Registration Checks

* NHS Health Checks

* Phlebotomy (drawing blood)

* Blood Pressure Monitoring

* Smoking Cessation

They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

Practice Management

Main areas of responsibility are: maintenance of the surgery premises and equipment; ensuring the practice complies with all aspects of health and safety requirements; implementing policies and procedures; liaising with outside agencies to keep abreast of any development within the NHS that might affect the practice or the partners; dealing with patient enquiries and suggestions; overseeing the operation of the practice-based complaints procedure in conjunction with the senior partner.

Office Manager

The office manager is responsible for: the smooth running of the reception area; dealing with enquiries, complaints and suggestions from patients in the practice manager’s absence; the organisation of cover for holidays, sickness and compassionate leave; the initial and continued training of reception staff.


A doctor’s reception is often a very busy and sometimes difficult environment in which to work. The receptionists employed by the practice are here to help and we would be grateful if patients could respect the reception staff at all times.

The receptionist will assist patients in the following:

  • To arrange appointments
  • Take requests for home visits
  • Order repeat prescriptions
  • Organise hospital transport as appropriate
  • Inform patients of test results
  • Inform patients of a time when the doctor may be free to speak to them over the telephone


The reception staff are trained to help you access our services and to ensure that the practice runs smoothly. However, please remember that they are not doctors and nurses and, whilst they work hard to help you, they may not have instant answers or solutions to all your enquiries.

Community Midwives

The midwives provide care and advice to patients during pregnancy and after childbirth. Clinics are held in mother and baby clinics held at the Sure Start Centres. If you think you are pregnant you will need to see the doctor who will refer you to the midwife and the hospital for antenatal care.

Community Nurses

The district nurses provide a wide range of support and services to patients, mainly in their home environment. This may range from visiting patients following discharge from hospital to long-term care for various nursing needs. The district nurses can be contacted directly on 0161 763 8525.

Health Visitors

The health visitors are based at Ings Lane clinic and hold a baby clinic at the surgery on a Monday afternoon between 1.30 and 2.30pm - no appointment is necessary. The health visitors work closely with young families and are available to give advice on the general welfare of young children, infant feeding and weaning. They will, at certain ages, invite children to attend for hearing tests and assessments to promote good health and monitor their development.
