Consultations are strictly by appointment and should be made at reception or by telephone. A separate appointment is necessary for each member of the family wishing to see the doctor or one of the nurses.
You are free to arrange an appointment with any of the doctors but please bear in mind you may not be able to see the doctor of choice if your appointment is booked at short notice.
Routine appointments are usually for 10 minutes. If you feel your problem may require longer than this, please notify the receptionist at the time of booking.
Please remember that it is not always necessary to see a GP. A Practice Nurse or a Healthcare Assistant, or another service such as an Optician or Community Pharmacy, may be more appropriate and for this reason, receptionists have been trained to cover a more diverse role as Care Navigators in ALL practices across Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale.
The purpose of this role is to shorten the time it takes to connect patients with the most appropriate person to meet their needs. The receptionists have a number of alternative types of appointments available to them, and they need to offer you the most appropriate appointment to deal with your problem. The most appropriate appointment may be with your GP in surgery or via telephone, or perhaps with another member f the practice team.
To help you make the appointment, the care navigator will need to know a little about why you need an appointment and so will ask you some very brief questions about your symptoms an why you feel you need an appointment. This is entirely confidential, and although you do not have to answer them, we would ask that you do so to enable to help you in the best possible way.
We apologise for delays which can occur during surgeries. These usually occur because a patient has a particularly complicated problem which takes more time to resolve. We would ask for your patience on such occasions.
We also have an online service for booking appointments, please ask at reception if you are not already registered for this. ID is required to register. Once you have registered the link above will take you to patient assess services.
If you phone us with a question or message for a doctor or nurse, the receptionist will take the details and pass the message on to the doctor or nurse.
If you feel your problem could be dealt with by speaking to the doctor on the telephone, the receptionist will advise you when they are likely to be available. Usually this will be between 13:00 - 18:30 on weekdays.
Patients that DNA (Did Not Attend)
The surgery has a system whereby they monitor patients who fail to attend their appointments. If patients book appointments and continually fail to attend them without informing the surgery, letters will be sent to those patients and this may result in the practice asking them to register elsewhere. If you cannot keep an appointment, please cancel it as soon as possible and then that appointment can be offered to another patient who is in need of it.
The surgery offers a text reminder service for patient appointments and we use this facility to send out reminders for clinical requests such as cervical smears and smoking status. If you do not want to receive these reminders please let a receptionist know so that they can 'opt you out'. Txt reminders can only be sent to mobile numbers, so please ensure that you inform us of any changes to your contact details.
Face to Face Consultations

THE SURGERY THROUGHOUT THE PANDEMIC HAS OFFERED FACE TO FACE CONSULTATIONS AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO TO ENSURE YOUR NEEDS ARE MET IN A SAFE AND TIMELY MANNER.
